Black Garnet Books

Black Garnet Books is a bookstore based in Saint Paul and is the only Black-owned brick-and-mortar bookstore in the state. It initially operated as a pop-up for a year before receiving a city grant to establish a permanent location.

The store focuses on works by Black and other diverse authors, with a curated selection for adults and young adults. This intentional focus allows it to complement, rather than compete with, local initiatives like Babycake’s Book Stack, a St. Paul-based bookmobile dedicated to diverse children’s literature.
